Chapter 1 starts with events during October 1904. This is a perfect book for researchers wanting a "inside look" at the early days of Las Vegas OUT OF PRINT but worth looking for in used book stores. |

Published in 1996 the guide sheds light on the past ten years in which Las Vegas has totally reinvented itself. Photographs by Michael Yamashita and in depth descriptions of the resorts of that era will prove to be of value to historians.

Synopsis: Authored by Everett Louis Overstreet. A rare book giving the history and record of the accomplishments of Americans of African descent. The author's research takes the reader back to 1860 black pioneers as well as the immigration of southern black folks looking for good service jobs in the hotel industry here. Local author Ed Reid in conjunction with Ovid Demaris created a runaway best seller by taking some liberties with historical fact when they painted the crime mob and how they created a pleasure palace in the barren desert. If the reader likes crime stories this is an A+ "read". First published in 1963 hard back.. then in soft-cover. Try your local used book store for a copy. |
